Arne Slot explains the only strict rule he’s brought in at Liverpool in huge change from Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has revealed the one big change he has implemented since taking over from legendary boss Jurgen Klopp.

Slot took on the role of Liverpool manager in July, following on from Klopp who had spent a highly successful nine years with the club.

Since joining, the Dutch manager has impressed Liverpool fans as he has won all but one of his nine matches in charge this season and is yet to concede more than one goal in any game.

And now, Slot has revealed the one change he decided to implement since taking over from Klopp, and it may partly explain his success so far.

Speaking about the rules he implemented when joining the club, the 46-year-old told Sky Sports: “There was (already) a really good culture of players being on time, so I hate it if we have to talk about fines and these kinds of things for players being late. It’s normal that you’re on time.

“But that culture was already here, so maybe the only one – I’m not sure it’s a rule – but they used to go into hotels a lot the day before a game, and that’s what we’ve changed, because I and my staff feel the best place to sleep is your own bed, so it gives you the best rest possible.

“That’s one of the few things we’ve changed. So before a home game the players are in their own house, their own bed, instead of being in a hotel.”

Following a dominant 2-0 win over Bologna in the Champions League on Wednesday, Liverpool will travel to Selhurst Park next for a Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday ahead of the second international break of the season.

Once back from international duty, the Reds face a difficult run of fixtures right up until the end of the year, with matches against Chelsea, Arsenal, Beyer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City all within their next 10 games.

In fact, Slot acknowledged the favourable run he has enjoyed and how it will soon change after Tuesday’s Champions League win.

He said: “Every fixture is difficult in the Premier league but everybody tells me that a top league table team is harder to beat than a bottom league table team… and we have not faced one of them yet”.
