Anthony Gordon names the England player who is “different to the rest of us”

Anthony Gordon has named the England player who is “different to the rest of us”.

England are set to kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on Sunday evening at the Arena AufSchalke.

The Three Lions boast one of the fiercest attacking line ups in world football, with tonight’s opposition likely to come up against Bundesliga Golden Boot winner Harry Kane, Premier League Player of the Year Phil Foden, La Liga Player of the Year Jude Bellingham and Arsenal talisman Bukayo Saka.

From the bench, Gareth Southgate’s also squad boasts the likes of Cole Palmer, Eberechi Eze, Gordon and Ollie Watkins.

Amid such riches, Gordon has singled out one of his colleagues for being technically superior to everyone else.

When asked by the PFA to build his ‘perfect England player’ from a list of attributes (right foot, left foot, strike from distance etc) Gordon was quick to say: “I think Phil [Foden] technically is out of this world. He’s different from the rest of us.”

Foden heads to Germany after a fine season at City, scoring 19 goals and providing eight assists as Pep Guardiola’s men claimed an unprecedented fourth straight Premier League title.

Ahead of Sunday’s Group C opener against Serbia, club and international team-mate John Stones said, when asked if Foden could be player of the tournament at Euro 2024: “Yes. I’m biased, I think he’s absolutely incredible. First, how he plays the game, so silky playing like he’s in the park.

“I feel like he has brought so much to his game. Goals, maturity, knowing of situations, his pressing.

“This season has been incredible for him and I hope and I’m sure he will bring that to the tournament.”

With just four goals in 34 caps, Foden has only shown flashes of his talent in an England shirt.
