David Ornstein has delivered a huge bombshell on Pep Guardiola’s future amid uncertainty surrounding the Catalan.
Guardiola’s contract at City is due to expire at the end of the season and he was heavily linked with the England job prior to Thomas Tuchel being appointed.
It’s already been confirmed that Guardiola’s long-time friend and City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain will be stepping away and handing duties over to Sporting CP’s Hugo Viana.
Viana’s arrival has sparked some speculation that he could be joined by Sporting manager Ruben Amorim, who has been touted to replace Guardiola.
Yet according to The Athletic’s football correspondent Ornstein, Guardiola looks set to stay put for City.
Even with the outcome of the hearing related to Manchester City’s 115 charges, there has been talk about the 53-year-old signing a one-year contract.

“Pep Guardiola was in no position to commit at that point and so the FA would have had to adapt their plans accordingly,” Ornstein said on NBC Sports when discussing England making contact with Guardiola in the summer.
“When the story about Guardiola came out about a week ago I made some checks and it was abundantly clear to me that it was more likely Pep Guardiola will extend at Man City for one year than anything else, including the England job.
“He always tends to leave his decision quite late. I broke the news in November 2022, that he’d be signing his last contract, so that was approaching his final six months.
“And you’ve got to remember Txiki Begiristain is leaving, he’s the sporting director.
“Pep Guardiola has said, ‘Part of me is leaving’ but that has been interpreted as ‘Part of me is staying’.
“So perhaps we haven’t seen the end of Pep Guardiola at City.”
A one-year extension would complete a decade of service at City for Guardiola, who has won six Premier League titles.Featured Image Credit: Getty & NBC
