Fans have named the THREE players who let Lionel Messi down as Inter Miami were dumped out of the MLS playoffs in what is being called one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history.
Messi’s side suffered a crushing 3-2 defeat to Atlanta United on Sunday in a stunning upset.
Miami, who were overwhelming favourites to win the entire competition, opened the scoring through Matías Rojas, but Atlanta turned the game on its head in the space of two minutes as Jamal Thiare netted a quick-fire brace to put his side in the lead.
Messi levelled proceedings just after the hour mark when he headed home.
However, Atlanta grabbed a winner in the 76th minute, knocking out the David Beckham-owned team.
Atlanta advance to the next round of the MLS Cup at the expense of Miami.
After the game, fans on social media hit out at three players, claiming they let the 37-year-old down in the game.

Defenders Marcelo Weigandt, Tomas Aviles and David Martínez were singled out for their displays at the back, with Miami conceding three goals at home to Atlanta.
One X user slammed: “Lionel Messi tried his hardest but you can’t do it all while having THIS defense behind you. Marcelo Weigandt, Tomas Aviles & David Martínez, they should hang their heads in shame.”
A second tweeted: : “He’s trying to carry the whole team.”
A third added: “That defence is useless.”
A fourth said: “Drake Callender purple patch is so over. This guy stinks.”
Another argued; “That defence won 12 games when Messi was out injured and won the league shield without him.”
Atlanta’s Brad Guzan, who made 144 Premier League appearances for Aston Villa, was named Player of the Match following the string of saves he made in net.
Speaking after their victory, he said: “‘There’s some fairy dust in our locker room. On to the next one.”Featured Image Credit: Apple TV
