Those behind the scenes at Manchester United want to celebrate the club’s 150-year anniversary with a Premier League title.
They may be the most successful club of the Premier League era after winning 13 league titles since 1992 but it has been 11 years since United lifted a league trophy.
Since then, the blue half of Manchester have dominated for large periods. In fact, the Citizens have won the title in six of the last seven seasons under Pep Guardiola, who has transformed the landscape of English football.
But as we all know, football is an ever-changing game and Omar Berrada, who was hired from City in the summer to re-establish United as a title-winning side, has mapped out the club’s ambitions.
Speaking to employees at Old Trafford during a meeting last Wednesday, Berrada mapped out the ambitions shared by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his staff, according to a report from The Athletic.
Here, he told those in attendance that the aim is to win the Premier League title in 2028, which is the same year as the club’s 150th anniversary.
The report also suggests Berrada spoke about the women’s team winning their first title by that year.
Back in February, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe outlined his plans to get Manchester United back to the top.
Just as Berrada did last week, the British billionaire suggested that the club’s 150-year anniversary was a realistic date for a Premier League title win.
“The fans would run out of patience if it was a 10-year plan,” he said. “But it’s certainly a three-year plan to get there.
“To think that we’re going to be playing football as good as Manchester City played against Real Madrid last year by next season is not sensible. And if we give people false expectations, then they will get disappointed.
“So I think the key thing is our trajectory, so that people can see that we’re making progress. Because it’s not easy to turn Manchester United into the world’s best football team.”

Ratcliffe added: “It’s been a complete misery, really, in the last 11 years and it’s just frustrating if you’re a supporter. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. It should be playing the best football in the world and hasn’t been doing that for 10 or 11 years.”
