Manchester United have expressed a strong interest in bringing one of Europe’s top wingers to Old Trafford, according to reports, but they stiff competition from Arsenal and Liverpool.
With the appointment of Ruben Amorim, there will inevitably be plenty of speculation surrounding United when the next transfer window rolls around.
A handful of Sporting Lisbon players have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford, including Goncalo Inacio, Geovany Quenda and Viktor Gyokeres, who is being chased by several top clubs in Europe.
There is only a ‘modest’ budget for the new United manager to play with in January, according to The Guardian, as they prepare to adhere with profitability and sustainability rules.
But what about a potential free transfer in the summer? It has emerged that the club have made ‘enquiries’ about signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane.
Sane, who is out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 season, has struggled for first-team minutes under Vincent Kompany this season.
In fact, the Germany international is yet to start a league game for the Bundesliga side as he continues to struggle with injury following groin surgery in the summer.
Back in October, however, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed talks over a new contract are ongoing.
“Now it’s important that Leroy feels comfortable again and can show what he can do on the pitch again,” he said. “We are in open communication with his agent and as soon as there is a decision, we will announce it.”
Amid rumours around his future, journalist Christian Falk claims both Arsenal and Manchester United are interested in Sane, with the latter making an enquiry about the 28-year-old.

Sane, meanwhile, will wait for contract negotiations with Bayern before making a decision on his future, but there appears to be plenty of interest from elsewhere.
The former Manchester City winger is on Liverpool’s shortlist of potential replacements for Mohamed Salah, according to TeamTalk, meaning three Premier League clubs could battle for his signature in the coming months.
