Pep Guardiola has broken his silence on reports linking him with becoming England’s next permanent manager.
After losing the Euro 2024 final against Spain in Berlin, Germany, Gareth Southgate stepped down as England manager.
In response, the English Football Association handed the job to U21 boss Lee Carsley on an interim basis.
Carsley’s reign started off with a flyer after victories over the Republic of Ireland and Finland last month.
However, the 50-year-old suffered his first defeat last week when Greece beat the Three Lions 2-1 at Wembley.
Since then, England bounced back against Finland and there has been uncertainty over Carsley’s future as England boss.
One of the names heavily linked with the England job has been Manchester City boss Guardiola, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the 24/25 season.
Speaking recently to Che Tempo Che Fa, Guardiola was asked about his City future and potentially taking over the England side.
He said: “I haven’t finished my career at Manchester City yet, I still have to think about it.
“It’s not true that I’ll be the England coach. I haven’t decided anything yet, if I had decided my future at Manchester City I would say so, anything can happen in life.”

Speaking about his future after the Finland match, Carsley said: “I’ve not really thought much about it. I keep saying the same thing. My remit was to do six games. I’m really happy with that.
“I think people are always going to put their chips on one side. I’m totally in the middle. My bosses have made it totally clear what they need from me. This job deserves a world class coach that’s won trophies and been there and done it – and I’m still on the path to doing that.”
He added: “I tried to make it as clear as I could – anytime we speak like this – my remit was three camps.
“The point I was trying to make is that it’s one of the top jobs in the world and I’m not part of the process but it deserves a top coach. The players we have available, we’ve got a real chance of winning. That was the point I was making.”Featured Image Credit: X/chetempochefa
