Swedish fourth tier side Ängelholms FF missed out on being crowned champions, despite going the entire season without conceding a single goal.
Ulf Johansson’s side, who describe themselves as “a young women’s team with a strong focus on development”, recorded 15 wins from a possible 18 in Division 4 Skåne Northwest.
In total, they scored 78 goals across the 2024 campaign, which was 43 goals less than eventual champions Ljungbyheds IF.
But the team from Ängelholm can proudly claim to have gone the entire season without conceding a goal – a remarkable feat all things considered.
Ängelholms goalkeeper Nellie Bengtsson, 17, spoke to HD.se about her remarkable achievement of keeping 18 clean sheets in a row.
“It feels very good that we succeeded,” she said. “If you think about it, it’s pretty easy to concede a goal. One mistake is enough and it rolls in.”
Back in June, when Ängelholms had kept eight consecutive clean sheets in the league, coach Ulf Johansson gave an insight into their remarkable defensive record.
When asked how it was even possible to achieve such a feat, Johansson said: “Through a high defensive game, the right attitude, direct recapture and a good goalkeeper is the melody of being able to keep a clean sheet in so many games.”
Here’s how fans on social media reacted to Ängelholms missing out on the league title by a single point.
One said: “Their goalie must be fuming,” while a second commented: “Please tell me me one of their theee draws was against Hjarnaps who got only 1 point all season with a huge negative goal difference.”
A third wrote: “This is actually insane. Craziest stat I’ve ever seen.”
A fourth said: “Going invincible is one thing but not conceding a goal is absolute madness,” and a fifth added: “This is truly amazing I doubt we’ll see anything like this. They only tied 3 games.”
