Chelsea release photo that confirms exact size of Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad amid claims of club having 40 players

Chelsea have dropped their official squad photo for the 24/25 season amid claims they have as many as 40 players.

It has been another busy transfer window for the Blues this summer as they brought in the likes of Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Mike Penders, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu, Tosin Adarabioyo and Jadon Sancho.

Throughout the summer, it was claimed that Chelsea could have as many as 40 players in their squad due to their spending spree.

However, those claims were squashed on Friday when Chelsea released their official squad photo for the 24/25 season.

As shown in the picture, there are in total 29 players in the Blues squad.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “Just 29 players and they say we have a large squad.”

Another tweeted: “They said we have 45 players. Lol.”

A third fan added: “Hahaha but media keep saying we have 40 players ..Warra 40 players for Chelsea.”

So far this season, Chelsea have won two, drawn one and lost one match as they currently sit eighth in the Premier League table with seven points.

Enzo Maresca’s men are five points off leaders Manchester City and will return to Premier League action this weekend when they take on London rivals West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking ahead of the match, Blues boss Maresca said: “It has been great also the previous one. I try to live every week and every day in the same way. Focus on things I can control. My focus is on training sessions and games.

“This is a good squad. But in the last two years we have finished 12th and sixth. You need progress. The only way to reach some important targets is to be focused on game after game.”

He added: “Training sessions is the only way to improve players. We try to improve them every day with some of them doing extra sessions at the end.”
