The top five fastest Premier League players this season have been revealed – and a surprise name tops the list.
Last season, the crown was awarded to Kyle Walker, who registered a top sprint speed of 37.31 km/h – at the age of 33.
Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, meanwhile, clocked 36.53 km/h during one game, despite initial claims that he had broken the record as the fastest player ever.
Walker’s pace last season has already been beaten by one player this term, with Sky Sports publishing a list of the top five fastest players in this season’s Premier League.
The player in question is Tottenham star Micky van de Ven, who has been a key player for Ange Postecoglou’s side since his arrival from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

Van de Ven’s incredible recovery pace was well-known to onlookers before his arrival in the Premier League – as of 2023, he was the ninth-fastest player in Bundesliga history (36.35 km/h) since records began in 2011/12 – but he ran at a speed comfortably faster than that this term.
The 23-year-old registered a stunning sprint speed of 37.38 km/h, making him comfortably the fastest player in the division this term.
In second place is Luton winger Chiedozie Ogbene, who came in at a blistering 36.93 km/h.
There is a smaller gap between the Republic of Ireland international and Wolves star Pedro Neto, who was recorded at 36.86 km/h.
In fourth place, meanwhile, is Liverpool‘s Dominik Szoboszlai (36.76 km/h), while another surprise name, Burnley centre-back Dara O’Shea – registered a sprint speed of 36.73 km/h and places fifth.
Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon and Everton’s Amadou Onana narrowly miss out on a place in the top five, finishing sixth and seventh respectively.
The all time record since the statistic was recorded is held by none other than Walker, who ran at an astonishing maximum speed of 37.80 km/h (23.48 mph) in 2020.
The fastest active footballer, meanwhile, is Kylian Mbappe, who was once recorded at 23.6 mph during a Paris Saint-Germain game.
He trails the world record set by Usain Bolt, who ran at 27.4 mph when he set his record-breaking 100m time of 9.58 at the 2012 Olympics. Good luck beating that.
